It’s nice to have you running again.. Next up is to tighten up the left front hub and get it aligned . The front end is sit t ing up quite high and I’m not sure why. I installed new end links and sway bar bushings but that shouldn’t affect right height.

Hello Z-Car My Old Friend.
I’ve Come to Wrench on You Again.
Because of
Tire Wear Slowly Creeping.
From A Spindle Bearing Softly Peeping.
And the lofty ride height hurt
ing
my brain...
Still Remains.
With
the Suspension’s non-silence.
In restless dreams we drive
alone
Bouncy
streets of cobblestone
‘Neath the halo of a street lamp
Coolant petcock all
wet
and damp
With
tunes of
side draft carbs just not right
Persistent pull
to the right
Another
L24 stalls in
silence

Hey look another person doing that Montana license plate LLC reg cheat ! Yours was on an earlier boat I’m sure, I have a middle of 1971, it does have the fuel door knob etc.. so it was not too far behind.

Great color on that MFer. Value on these have really shot up the past few months/year or so.

The engine on this car is one of the strongest and best running stock L24’s I’ve ever driven.

I detected the start of the hype when the Petrolicious video came out, after that I got more notes on the car etc...

It is quite astounding. These cars are fun to drive and easy to work on but I would never consider it special in any real way. They made 40,000 in 1971 alone.

This one from a few years ago running Mikuni 44s and sounding like a god damned orchestra was the personal resurgence for me. They were still kind of affordable then but just went off like a rocket from there.
Won’t even make you look for the good part.

So pretty. Enjoy the hell out of it. Screw the value - it’s only value if you extract it.

Yeabut it’s old and pretty and neat...and everyone agrees with us so they’re expensive now. I feel the same way about 2002's

I’ve got a nice L28 in my shop with a gorgeous set of side-draft Mikunis...
In my head I’ve done all kinds of projects around it. In reality? There. It sits.

Mikunis are expensive, I got triple Webos instead but they sound great. We have a single lane tunnel out to one of our beaches that was a military fort.

Yeah I mean I can’t imagine the Webers sounding any worse particularly when there are three . I’m s porting just two of them @ 40mm on the 1502.

My car came with 45s but they were just too much, the 40s are fine. I’ve heard that Mikunis get slightly better fuel economy but the car is pretty good on gas considering how I drive it.

You can build an L28 to mid 250 +- with Webber’s and a cam.

I love a nice 2002. Such a great shape and that engine is like the incredible hulk of 4 bangers.

Confirmed a 50 year old Datsun without rust is very very rare.

IIRC, stock compression is pretty low-- often wonder what a bump in compression would do for it. My tuner wants to boost it.

Correct the stock compression is very low. My dad built a 3.1L with 13:1 compression. It was a pain to drive and needed race gas all the time. He lowered the compression to 10.5:1 and it became much more drivable, ie it didn’t try to kill you every time you hit the gas.
So it’s pistons, rods and a maxima diesel crank and voi-la you have a nearly 3.0 l with higher compression.

Whoa, tell me more exploits of this “Maxima diesel crank” of which you speak...

It’s commonly called a stroker motor and is well documented. IIRC maxima crank, 240sx connecting rods and flat top pistons. Still use the N42 head but you can hog out the ports maybe bigger valves I don’t remember.
These builds are crazy if done right can push 300+ HP with the right cam and carbs.

I’ve had several projects done with strokers— including a monster 396 for one of my B-Bodies— but had zero idea that the Maxima diesel crank with fit the block and caps of the L2x blocks. That sounds pretty awesome actually— I’m about to go down that rabbit hole.
Thanks!

Having driven my dads car with this engine quite a bit I can attest to it’s awesomeness. It’s hard to describe other than it gives you an adrenaline rush doing errands. Distances on the road shrink rapidly with a car that accelerates this fast and goes around a corner. I can hop into a 300 HO mustang and openly exclaim where is the engine? Did the same in an RX8 extra... the only thing that I’ve driven that comes close is a new ford power stroke turbo diesel with 509 HP and 900 ft-lbs of torque.
